Gabe Cummins

6pm Friday August 10, 2007
Marketplace Mall Parking Lot
64 Main Street, Cortland, NY

The musical career of this man started early, at age thirteen. Upstate New York is where Gabe Cummins calls home. He now lives in New York City and is celebrating the release of his first solo-CD titled "If You Were You." As a part-time job, he teaches musical lessons, but full-time, he is a performer and up-and-coming musician.

His curiosity of jazz led Gabe to attend to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. While at this school, he received Berklee's Best Scholarship. After graduating from Berklee, Gabe moved to Ithaca, NY, where he maintained an impressive student roster and took lessons with world renowned jazz educator, Charlie Banacos. Wanting to sink his teeth into more modern styles of performing, Gabe moved to New York City in 2004. He is at present a Professor of guitar at New York University, where he is in pursuit of a Masters Degree in Performance and Composition.

Since moving to New York, Gabe has performed at numerous venues; however, teaching also remains very important to Gabe. He is presently working for Museeek Publishing as a writer for a series of books that will serve as the curriculum for New York University's Summer Guitar Intensive. Still, to this day, his live performances are captivating audiences everywhere.

Quotes:

"Although his technique and his musicianship are prodigious, Gabe is not simply an exceptional guitarist or musician. He is striving for the deeper more abstract goal of being an artist, an artist who uses his guitar as a vehicle for expression."
-Hal Crook

"I find him to be among the most motivated people I have worked with. He is the type of person that adds to the experience of all those he comes into contact with."
-Rick Peckham, Assistant Chair, Berklee College of Music
